Poker

Traditionally, poker is played with a standard 52-card pack of cards. However, some poker games also include jokers and wild cards.

A “pot” is the pot of chips in the middle of the table. The highest hand wins the pot. A “showdown” occurs after the final betting interval. All players show their cards. During the showdown, the best hand is revealed and wins.

Poker chips are usually made of ceramic or plastic. The blue chip is worth ten, twenty or twenty-five whites. The red chip is usually worth five whites.

Poker is played by a group of people around a circular table. Each player has a set of five cards. They are ranked from Ace to Ace. The best natural hand is a straight flush, a five card hand in the same suit.

In order to play, a player must first buy in. Depending on the game, the buy-in is usually fixed.

A player may also raise a bet, but if the opponent calls, he must also call the bet. If he does not, he is called to “fold” or discard his hand.

If no one calls, the player may decide to check or raise. If he checks, he must drop his bet.

The high card breaks ties. A high card is the card that breaks ties when several people have the same card or when two identical hands have the same card. A hand that has more than one five of a kind wins the pot.
